Gear Drive with Idler Model
# 2 indicates speed relationships in a gear train with idler. A 48-tooth gear on input shaft drives a 36-tooth gear (idler) on an intermediate shaft, which meshes with a 96-tooth gear on output shaft. Explains function of idler in changing direction of rotation without affecting output-shaft speed.
