Screw Cutting Machine

This model illustrates the principle of a screw cutting attachement used on almost all lathes. The rotation of the drive shaft is transmitted via a simple gear train to the driven shaft, which in this case is a threaded spindel. The support block on it slides along and carries a pencil to draw the helical line on the circumfence of a drum fixed on the input shaft. Up to the choosen gear ratios between both shafts different leads can be obtained.

“Better one model in a student´s hand - than 50 models in an elegant cupboard” !
By using them this way, the handy models allow a fascinating approach to the laws
of classic mechanisms and machine elements to learn their classification,
motion changes, accelerations, torques etc...

Calculations of gear/pulley
ratios and dimensions, shaft distances, mating technical
drawings are only a few of the many interesting and valuable tasks provided by these superb models.

Using the wide array of components from the AUTOMAT Construction Kits System,
every creative designer can build his own special model machines in a fast and easy way - as both systems (AUTOMAT and COMPACT) use the same components.

In total the COMPACT Series represents an almost complete cross-section of the wide field of mechanics and gear technics which is constantly extended.
